      Hi All,

Anyone care to let me know what these are for please?

Single very sharp cutter blade to one jaw; plastic curved cut outs and central steel cut out to other jaw?

Branded SMC and BEAVER but can find no info on line.

      Cheers, Martin

I can't read the patent number on your photo Martin, but have you tried searching for it? The "Japan Platform for Patent Information" has an English search page.

Patent numbers come up as "cancellation due to unpaid fee" !

It's a pipe cutter. SMC do a lot of stuff for pneumatics, a tool like this cuts the tube nice a squarely. The 2 rounds in the jaw will be for different sizes of tubing.

Cutters of similar style are made for shearing plastic pipe, pvc electrical trunking and similar. Could also be for cutting multi wire cables. Just a case of finding out what diameter fits the recesses best.

Most of those now on the market at affordable prices seem to be single size. But a while back I had an inexpensive one with two interchangeable anvil sets each having two curved support sections similar to the that tool. So mine could deal with four sizes of "pipe". Actually two pipe sizes on one anvil set whilst the other handled round and square mini-trunking. Cheap die cast pliers broke fairly soon but it lasted for most f the job I needed them for so i guess I got my £5 worth.

If you want to spend serious money there is a plethora of expensive ratchet action plier bodies taking similar cutter and blade anvil sets, electrical crimp "things" et al. Pretty much anything else that an installation person might want to squeeze that doesn't need more force than one hand can give really.

That one is probably a less expensive one kitted out for a specific job.

SMC TK-1 or TK-2, RS amongst others sell them and have tube size details.
