      Hi All.

These two items were just blobs of rusty grease when I dug them out from the bottom of a large crate of tooling most of which has gone to the scrapyard:

      namco 2namco 1namco 3namco 4

To my amazement they have cleaned up really well and even the small micrometers by LUFKIN USA are now all good.

As to what they are for, I would love to know? They are stamped with two different sizes 3/8 & 9/16 as shown.

What the DR-DS-DBS is all about I have no idea!

      Cheers, Martin

I wonder if the USA marking might be a Red Herring ?

… This NAMCO looks a more likely candidate than the others:

Edit:__ probably not … they only started in 1984 🙁

          Second attempt:

Have a look at ebay item:

Thankyou. I have downloaded the full seminar in pdf as they allow. That is very useful information on dieheads.

The eBay link shows the same tool made by a few people (Herbert, BSA, etc.).

            Some discussion of NAMCO here:

            https://www.practicalmachinist.com/forum/threads/herbert-namco-etc-thread-setting-gauge-uses.380879/

Edit: the link explains the DR, etc. as the diehead model with which the gauge is to be used.

              Hi Michael,

Thanks for that; NAMCO did not come up when I looked in EB?

Blimey! that second link looks complicated! Somewhat specialist tooling it would appear.

I have a feeling that from my point of view I will do better with the 4 Lufkin Micrometer heads on their own as they will have a appeal to the watchmaking community etc. We shall see.

I think that he guy with the one on EBay is “flying a kite” to see what offers come in, if any. Never works IMHO.

              Cheers, Martin

If you squint at them a bit and imagine the micrometer heads removed, they look to have potential to hold drill bushings and be used as drilling jigs.

The step-by-step indexing of the parts clamped on the side gives good adustability. I think if you inverted the clamped-on parts so the top was the part with the T-slot, they might be even more versatile.

Kind of a different take on this:

The presentation of their documentation is exemplary.

Interestingly there has been zero interest in these items on EBay so I am stripping out the four nice Lufkin micrometer heads and listing those on their own.

                    cheers, Martin

As intact tools they will only interest those who use the rest of the system, and they are likely to be industrial users who would buy new anyway.

Still, the micrometers are likely to have much more appeal due to far wider potential applications.
