      Hello all.

Just received this unusual hand held knurling tool from Ebay.

It's quite neat and works well. Never seen one like it but it may be something from industry.

I did a test piece shown above it and the diamond pattern was very tidy.

          I like that yes

Maybe designed by someone who owned a Pipe-Cutter ?

Interesting that there are apparently three knurling wheels; also that you were able to traverse by hand.

A set of these with the knurl type indicated by the knurling on the handle would be good.

It moved smoothly along the work with just a little sideways pressure. The only thing I cant fathom is the cylindrical boss on the end with the two wheels. Looks like it could be a mounting lug but I'm not sure.

Obviously knurling pressure is varied by squeezing the pistol grip.

I agree with Michael G, isn't that just a nice piece of tooling?

Michael many thanks for the link. There it is still in production.

I'm a bit confused, not being of a horological persuasion, as to why such a tool is manufactured by a precision clock and watch tool maker.

Its capacity is 3 to 25mm which seems quite big for a watch maker. The spare Knurls also look quite coarse.

Is this just for horology or a general tool? Seems everything else on their site is just for watch making.

                  Regards mMic

I have one and it is used generally in Instrument work right up to the collets.

It was part of the inventory for the Service Dept. at Leica and I aquired it on close down of a satellite workshop that was not making money, I asked what I should do with the kit and was told to dump it!

                    Yes, into my tool box

Plasma, one use in clock making that I can think of would be knurled clock case feet but seems kind of expensive for that.

                        .

Certainly on the large side for making watch parts

… but just right for making parts for watchmaking tools

Perhaps they originally made them for use in-house, and then realised that there was a market.

Clive's comment would appear to support this hypothesis.

Lovely tool that! Don't know if I would pay the £407 for the one linked in Michaels post though. surprise
