I have a pair of what appears to be dividing or indexing plates. The large one is 13″ diameter and the small one 7″, both are very well made, heavily constructed and there are a number of precision ground buttons. Has anyone ever used one of these and is it something that would still get any use? I’ve never done anything with them myself and don’t have any instructions.
EDIT: I just found the patent (Actually GB869924)
Abstract
869,924. Drill-jigs. WAYTE, F. I. June 22, 1959, No. 21269/59. Class 83 (3). A drill-jig for drilling holes on various pitch circle diameters comprises a disc 1 having slots 3 in which slide guide-blocks 4, having drill-guides 5. The slots 3 are arranged at relative angles to 30 degrees and 60 degrees as shown to enable two, three, four or six holes to be drilled on the required pitch circle. The blocks are placed in the required slots and set at the desired pitch-circle by inserting plugs in the holes 2 and 5 and using a micrometer over the plugs. The blocks are then clamped by plates 6 and screws 7. To obtain the maximum range of adjustment of the blocks, they are reversible in the slots 3. If the work has a central hole, the jig can be set by using a plug in the hole 2 of the jig and in the hole in the work.
