Hi there. I hope I have found the right place for some help! My father passed away in 2000 and I am still finding bits and pieces of his around the house. He was a very keen engineer and always enjoyed building and running steam engines. We often went to the Model Engineer Exhibition which is where from memory I believe he bought these two units.
This one seems to work ok. It takes a while to warm up and get going but I did a little vid of it for anyone interested: here
So this is my main concern really, the large engine!
I think its pretty much in good nick, but there is a break on one of the rods I've marked. This connects to what looks like some kind of pressure relieve valve or actuator I'm not sure. But it seems to power the change-over for the horizontal uppy-downy bar (technical talk here!). I would love to fix it but I don't know where to start. The arm connected with a tiny little threaded socket (onto the right lever) and a little eye socket that went onto the actuator / relief valve. The eye looks pretty knackered though and its probably 1 mil or less wide. You guys might know the stock gauges though I'm hoping.
But basically I'd like to ascertain a model or name of these units for my own piece of mind, and also if anyone could suggest me any tips on how to go about fixing and maintaining the units would be great. F.ex. how to clean out the pipes, or do you need to? Keeping an eye on minor leaks etc…
Sorry for the long post, I hope it's of interest to some of you. Thanks for reading and helping.
