Looks to be inspired by a Cameron or Pearn's steam pump. Have you got a photo from above as most of these fed the steam into the top of the valve chest and out the side of the cylinder. What looks to be the inlet pipework may actually be plumbed up as the exhaust

appears to be an exhaust 'hole' right next to the inlet, but no fixing. did try running on a little air before the tools came out and seem to run correctly

Ah I can see them now, the handrail was blocking them from view in the sideways shots. So fairly usual setup of inlet via the side of the steam chest and outlet through side of cylinder, the bosses I could see on top of the valve chests are just valve rod guides (full size did not use this type of guide).

Bit difficult to plumb as it is but if stud holes like up you could flip the valve chests over so inlet is on the opposite side to exhaust then there would be room to plumb the exhaust though not really worth it if you are running on air.

This is my big single cylinder Cameron pimp with inlet at the top and exhaust from one side of cylinder the opposite side has the typical blanking plate as they were made to left or right hand mounting.

Thank you Jason, i see what you mean, i'll try a bit later to flip the valve chest and hope it lines up. It will eventually be steam run once the boiler is made.

Love your video, thats stunning. don't half get a move on doesn't it.

                  really appriciate your help

Looks very like Elmer's pumping engine No. 17.

Geoff's got it, dead righer for Elmers #17 except Elmer has the exhausts on the opposite side to the inlets as I suggested
