Thanks for that Dan, I think surviving Stuart Turner S.V. Progress engines are fairly rare, I spent the afternoon looking through Google, I found reference to the series of Progress engines, horizontal, vertical, oscillating, and slide valve. The only photo I found was of the new/current production OH engine.
They were sold with the cylinder pre bored, and faced. Someone with a small lathe, even a Super Adept could do the remaining machining.
I think this one Had the holes drilled for the cylinder end cap drilled free hand with a hand drill, they are at all angles except right angles, good thing it has little (8 BA) hex head bolts. One of the cylinder head bolt holes had been drilled through clearance size, so the builder just used 5 bolts, and soldered the 6th one in the end cover. I tapped the hole 6 BA , made a 6 BA stud, reduced a 6 BA nut to 8 BA size, I think it will look OK.
