'UK fires up old coal power plant as gas prices soar'! Sounds as if coal arrived like a White Knight to save the day with cheap energy. Maybe not! This graph shows the price of coal has soared as well.

Having peaked at five times more expensive than it was in May, it's only three times more today. Although the price of fossil fuels is hard to predict, expect them to rise from now on. Demand exceeds supply.

Coal isn't an obvious long-term alternative to gas as a way of generating electricity in the UK. Both are imported, both contribute to climate change, and both are getting more expensive. Vote for British Energy, which happens to be green, rather than dirty foreign fossil fuels.
