Troubleshooting chester mill

Hi All,

I’m new here, what a wonderful forum you have. I didn’t realise these places existed until I wondered onto it trying to troubleshoot my mill. I’m hoping someone can help me as I’m about to pull my hair out.

I have a Chester Champion 16v, a 2011 model.

I went to use it today, but despite the light working on the mill itself the motor wouldn’t power on. Other than the light, nothing would power on but I know the machine has power as the light is on.

When I press the green power button I get nothing, normally I can feel it latch on internally but this isn’t happening.

I’ve pulled the front and rear covers off the electrical box, nothing obvious looks blown and everything smells as normal.

There is no remote guard switch or anything else on the mill, so it’s not that (which has caught me out on my lathe).

I pulled the switch out from the front board and tested continuity, when the green button is pressed it is connecting. I have ordered a new switch anyway as it is old.

Could it be a control board issue?

I’m not great with electrics so help would be appreciated.

Ok I am an idiot. There is a switch in the guard housing and it has failed. I’ve put a jumper cable in and the mill is fine.

A great way to spend 4 hours 😂

I’ve never used the guard, in fact I don’t even have it anymore… So quite why it’s failed now I don’t know but no biggie.

Hi Moonnman Glad you sorted out the faulty switch problem out as another Champion 16V user its good to share problems and how you sorted them out. I had the same problem with my guard switch and got a new one from chster next day free.

That sounds much like the way I solve my problems, known as the “Hit and Miss” method !

Good to know Chester sorted you out David, I’ve dealt with them before with a new motor and found them fantastic and fortunately they are only a 45 minute drive away.

There warehouse room is incredible, some amazing machines.
