If you have the Myford Series 7 Manual , by Ian Bradley on or about page 140 you will see 2 ways to use it and the bits you need to do so. Its a dividing wheel ! may be 60 tooth and neatly marked for common divisions. Since you have a gearbox you may not have a set of change wheels. By changing the wheel tooth count you can do other divisions eg 21 =7 24 =8 27 =9 you get the idea ! Noel.

I seem to remember an ME article about that gadget many, many years ago?

Since you have got this nicely made expanding mandrel think of a way of fitting a removable handle to the end. Having one is incredibly useful for screwcutting as it provides quick stop near instead of at a shoulder and instant reverse. Only drawback is that the power may be limited and top speed is fairly low on my one. 🙂 (powered by Wheetabix instead of batteries)

Thanks all, the Ian Bradley book makes it very clear, thanks for the reference Noel.

Now I just need to get it safely lifted, I have some help arriving in the morning.

Finally, now safely installed and ready for lubrication and levelling, thanks to all who have advised.

That is a really nice looking machine Steve.

You should have a lot of fun with that.

Thanks Nigel, it was factory rebuilt in 2010 and seems to have hardly been used since, it also came with a lot of accessories, I’m delighted with finding it. The planned fun is to finish off my Stuart Beam, all of the castings of which which i machined on my ‘starter’ lathe, and then tackle a 3″ Fowler Traction Engine which will keep me busy for the foreseeable future!!
