A gentleman phoned me earlier today looking for any information on the Town Bent Engineering (of Rishton, Lancs) rotary table. He has had a ‘kit’ to make one for some years but does not have drawings or construction notes. He thought it may have appeared in either ME or MEW some years ago but has not managed to track it down. Can any of you good folk help him out please?

      Thanks
      Diane

          Hi Diane,

I believe Town Bent Engrg. ceased trading some years ago. I have their Horiz/Vert. mill.
Very good little mill. They had a trade stand at an ME exhibition some years ago, about 20-25 years ago, I think.

            Thanks John
They did indeed. This fellow is looking for any information to help him start his build project – anything such as drawings or construction notes.

            Thanks
            Diane

I have been sent some further information from Alex Fairbairn. It is copied here:-

Lot of data on above in issues 3797, 3814, 3821, 3838, 3845, 3869 and 3893. I have not looked copies out but will if requiried. Hope this helps.

              Regards
              Diane

I’m glad the enquirer has been given the references he required. I am also pleased to see that someone else has Sharp Mk2 milling machine. A very solid vertical/horizontal machine. I’ve just fitted a 3 axis DRO from Allendale to mine. Magic!

I’m sorry that I can’t contribute information to the original request, but I also love my Sharp MkIII (serial No. 920) – I have the full horizontal/vertical and slotting head. I added a DRO which has made a very useful machine.

Sadly, the Town Bent “Sharp” was doomed to fail – it was very expensive! I still have the original invoice; 25 years after mine was built the purchase price would still buy a very good Bridgeport!

My machine was supplied with a rotary table, but I am fairly certain that at that time the item was bought-in, probably Chinese.

                  Martin.
