      Hi all,

I’m trying to track down a supplier of this tool holder:

I’ve tried ArcEuroTrade who have nothing that matches.

Can anyone direct me to any alternate suppliers?

RDG show something similar on their site but out of stock and no sizes but quotes ‘C2 C3 mini lathes’

Looks a lot like the SC-4 one that ARC do as that is 60mm long, maybe some of the other sizes differ?

Emco used a similar design on some of their lathes which may well be what the Sieg is “insired” by. Do you have the toolpost or lathe and if so is there a make on it? At that size probably the one for the Compact8

In back of mind that Chronos used to do those/similar check sizes!

Just seen that you have an SC4 lathe so my bets are that the ARC one I linked to will be the best bet. Did ARC say they had nothing that matched or did you not see that one?

                Hi all,

Many thanks for your help on this.
The linked tool holder from ARC is apears identical to the ones I have..
I’m not too sure why they responded the way they did…

I have a related question regarding mounting a parting blade in said holder.
The parting blade in question is wedge shaped in section with the thicker side being 1.4mm and the thinner side 0.8mm.  The height of the blade is 9.65mm.  Mounting this blade in to the tool holder directly seems impossible.

Is there a sub-holder for this kind of blade that then is mounted in the tool holder?

If you go on the lathes.co.uk site and search for Dickson you get a link to the tool holders page showing the dimensions of these tool holders.

I think the holder requires the blade top edge be angled sideways rather than flat

You can get holders for that type of blade, imagine a tee shape in its side and a recess for the cutter in what was the top. Split centrally so the toolpost clamps squash it down which grips the tool. Recess is usually angled on the good ones. Others are again the tee on its side but use a separate clamping plate to grip the parting blade. Downside is they add to the tool overhang off the sid eof the post

Many thanks for all you help on this.

Late this afternoon I had a call from Arc who clarified what I was looking for was actually the SC-4 one mentioned above.

Also they pointed me at a suitable parting off block:

                        Best wishes to all.

                          Arc sell these https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Cutting-Tools/Lathe-Turning-Tools-Indexable/ARC-Indexable-Turning-Tools/SLTBN-Part-Off-Blade-Tool-Blocks-with-Part-Off-Blade

They are far better than the one they are showing you, I’ve had those. They work great with the tips from Arc. I bought other tips from Amazon that were useless. I part off 30mm steel all the time with the power feed using these, Awesome!

The one ARC suggested was to suit the blade that the OP already has.

Myself I use various types, for smaller items the narrower HSS or mini inserts are really all that is needed and over time saves on things like Brass on bronze which can get expensive. When used for grooving the unrounded corner of HSS can be usefull to.
