I have a number of tool cabinets in the workshop and I want to make foam inserts for the drawers. I’ve found out it’s closed cell foam. Loads of places in America do it but I don’t seem to be able to find much in the uk.

      http://www.toolfoam.com/

      Any ideas in the uk?

      Cheers
      Ant

I have used these people before and the sheets are black and come in quarter and half and inch thick. abou 8′ by 4′.
I machined used a TC router, air driven and constant vaccuum suction.

I thought that the sales foam to private individuals had been banned by the ‘Gnomes’ of ‘Elfin Safety’ because of the problems of fire proofing.

Another one you could try is http://www.flightcasehardware.co.uk. As well as large sheets they also do 500mm sq pieces in various thicknesses.

                  Hi Richard,

You seem very paranoid about H&S what are your particular unpleasant experiences?

                  Regards

I’ve had no problems buying rigid foams online for delivery to a private address over the last few months.

I rather think that H&S and EU regs are sometimes used as an excuse to cover ignorance and/or incompentence on the part of the supplier. Cynical, who me? Never!

                    Regards,

                      Hi Andrew,

Hear, hear, the same applies to the use of machine tools in schools or education generally. I hear of H&S used as excuses but the rules are merely common sense as would be followed in any environment where there are 25 to 30 eager youngsters trying to work in overcrowded conditions.  Throw in some turning, drilling, occasionally milling, silver soldering, annealing and a lot of benchwork and it can get quite exciting with no technical support and only one teacher armed only with inbuilt radar.

                      Regards

                      Terry

I have checked Oakleigh Cases current website and they seem to be a viable company and I can recommend them to you Anthony.
They do a very good professional job on the whole thing from start to finish.
They are based in Potters bar.

                          Hi Anthony,

                          You could try http://www.shadowfoam.com

They can supply cut to size blank foam for you to sink your tools into along with cutting kits containing all the tools to do so, Or they can custom cut the tool inserts for you.
