      I recently saw a tool and cutter grinder by Jim Schroeder on Youtube. Said it was based on Derek Brooks design which was in MEW in 1993. Has anyone built one ? Are drawings still available ?

      Paul.

          It's covered in Mew-016 (Apr/May 1993) and MEW-017 (Jun/Jul 1993) with full drawings. Looks interesting.

          If you have a digital subscription, it should be available in the archive. If not, and you're seriously interested, it might be worth the subscription price just for that.

            Paul;

            It's one of the designs I looked at a while ago, but decided on just biting the bullet and ordering the Hemingway Worden kit plus almost all of the attachment kits.

            The Worden does have its' quirks, but all in all is a pleasure to have. The kit, with the pre-punched and engraved bits and pieces, and the right materials sourced and sorted, plus Kirk Burwell's excellent plans, was a pleasure to make.

            Now, my focus is on building locomotives and in CNC so taking as little time as required was a goal on my part.

            I do have some pics of Worden bits I've machined on my CNC blog – if you are at all interested **LINK** should get you most of the articles; maybe the Hemingway Roll kit might show up too.

            It's all fun stuff – whatever you end up doing, tell us. John.

              Hi Paul,

              I don't know if you have read Gadgetbuilder's build log – Building a Brooks-Stent Cutter Grinder, he seems to have done a very good job and you could also send him an e-mail.

                Thor's link doesn't work for me. Try this one **LINK**

                  I started to built one of these several years ago using ideas from the gadget builders site. the main short coming of the the original design was that it used a die grinder that he had at hand. So you have to overcome that problem I used the Quorn spindle. The Brookes Stent concept scores in that it is very versatile in the number of attachments that can be made and it easily converts into a small surface grinder. The gadget Builders site has a wonderful detailed construction of this excellent piece of equipment with many excellent refinements.

                      Thank you all for your comments about the grinder. A project which is in my "bucket list". First have to finish the steam traction engine which I am building. And a dozen other projects. Never enough hours in a day !

                      Regards, Paul.

                        Sorry for supplying a non working link, seems one letter was missing and I didn't spot that. A senior moment.

                          The link didn't translate as such at all ….. it had spaces in it too so it didn't look like a real link.
