Yipee, I’ve just taken delivery of a Tom Senior M1 with both horizontal and vertical features included. The vertical head is the S-type with its own drive motor.

Steve Cox of Landylift collected it from Preston and brought it down to Essex this morning.

Can’t recommend Steve highly enough..

Now I’m even a more merrier miller., let’s get machining.

Hi There

Can you give me a list of the head speeds, the S type.

I have a light vertical with the S type head but no speed chart.

It’s from about 1962 David but I will try to sort it.

I might have to calculate the speeds.

The head is attached to the over-arm so you can pull the head away from the main body to give greater reach for the cutters.

Hi There

Mine is similar I think except it does not have the horizontal spindle.

The head is on a round bar with and index on a large diameter disk but I think you could pull it out a few inches.

Only thing is you would lose alignment.

Any chance of a photo?

David, some more info.

The head is a stepped four pulley arrangement with poly-vee belt drive.

I notice from an early manual they were three speed pulleys giving 750, 1450, and 2800 rpm using a conventional “A” section vee belt

Tom Walshaw in the ME from June 17 1977 gives a run down of the V head.

He says the 4-step pulley gives speeds of 500, 970, 1660 and 2800 rpm.

He doesn’t say what speed motor for those speeds but goes on to say that with a lower speed motor you will get 340, 600, 1000 and 1600 rpm.

I must have the low speed motor.

Must go and get a bicycle computer at the weekend and find out for sure.

David, the manual I have got for my TS lists oils that are no longer in existance today.

Do you have info on oils that can be used with your TS?
