My first posting as a new member with a question.

I am restoring an old Stuart Victoria horizontal steam engine and also cleaning up an unfired GLR boiler. I have had both in storage for 25 years! COVID has presented time on my hands whilst self isolating!

Anyhow, I disassembled the Victoria to clean off surface rust and soaked the governor and many parts of the engine in a cleaning solution. All the parts now look like new. I have since reassembled the engine but have three tiny steel balls left without having any idea where they belong!

Can anyone enlighten me what they are for? Please request further details if needed. Thanks, Mike in QLD, Australia

          Likely the governor?

Does it have a feed pump fitted as they have balls in them though usually only two, this would be around 1/8" or 5/32" dia so a lot smaller than the governor ones which would be fairly obvious if missing.

              Thanks for the replies.

I thought they might be from the governor but cannot see where. No feed pump on my Victoria.

I look forward  to further suggestions. The balls are really tiny.

I shall measure them tomorrow. Look to be less than 1/16".

              Thanks.

did you remove any gib strips – sometimes a BB is used between adj screws + the gib.

Hi, there doesn't appear to be any steel balls in either of the Victoria engines or the governor in their parts lists, see Stuart Models but there is two 3/16" ones in the feed pump.

                    Regards Nick.

                      Thankyou for all the responses.

I have no idea where the balls came from.

Drawings for the Stuart Victoria and Governor are on their way.

The shaft which the governor spins around on is bent, so needs replacing.

Next project is to tidy up the GLR boiler and hydraulic test it.

A ceramic gas burner ring is on it's way as well.

When I learn how to post photos before and after shots may be of interest.

Thanks again for all your support. Mike
