tilting rotary table online purchase

Hi all . After recently buying a small benchtop mill i thought I would add a rotary table to the accesories. I bought one online supplied from India , not very expensive but spec looked ok . Caveat emptor really needs to be headed ! it arrived and was eagerly unpacked . It took two hands to turn it and was as gritty as hell. I stripped it and cleaned a load of what can only be described as grinding paste . Another hour cleaning , fettling and polishing some of the parts and its now very smooth . Remains to be seen what its like in action?

Woulld I buy agian ? Not unless it has a good star rating and feedback .Strangely none of the rotary tables offer the oportunity to leave a start rating ?

LOL funny that about the ratings.

I have seen some absolutely appalling model engineer equipment from India. I would never buy direct from there. China is much more reliable. Which is saying something. One Indian-made vertical milling slide for a Myford that a mate bought had the slide end bracket casting that looked like a molten blob of metal. Absolutely awful. Appallingly bad machining too.

Now that yo have cleaned the casting sand out of your rotary table it might be ok. We have had posts on here about some of them stripping the teeth off the worm gear when used to mill circular slots etc so treat it with care I guess.

I think they are individuals selling odd rejects and "lunchbox specials" stolen from the small factories so dont care about repeat customers etc. Just quick cash at a great exchange rate for them.

Some of their tool factories are absolutely mind boggling and explain a lot about how industry works there.

I bought a Soba 6" which is a copy of the Vertex and it is ok since ditching the central needle roller bearing and turning up a bush out of aluminium to remove the unacceptable radial play. The aluminium is fine for a bearing considering the very slow speed of rotation.

I had a small, tilting rotary table once. I got rid of it pretty quickly because the (single) locking screw for the tilt movement wouldn't hold the tilt against the cutter loads.

Useless, wherever it was made.
