This is what you call home made wink

1948 Jones 250cc twin DOHC, Max revs 11,000 in 1948 but we used to keep them down to 9,000

At least it's a good use for Myford change wheels [ Actually they are all in steel except the mag wheel in alloy but they were made at Myfords.

There are quite a few home made V twins, the best to me is 2 Venom cylinders on one crankcase. No you can't make it on an ML7

Or what about using a couple of Pratt and Witney cylinders from a radial to create a 5 litre V-twin on a custom cast crankcase…?

She sounds lovely and gently burbles after a thump on the kickstart… this guy has made too many bikes from 'interesting' engines…

Duncan, probably me or my lack of computer skills but the link only shows text and no pictures. I was interested in the Vee twin Velo I think it could be a local bike to me. Built by a member of my VMCC branch, is the bike on the link painted in green ? Chris.

Good board tracker "build thread" here for those that want to make one, or a simpler single cyl bike to a 1906 design here

I've just tried Duncan's link on the iPad

… It takes a couple of seconds to load the page, but seems fine.

If it was anyting like the gear-driven cams on my VFR800 Honda, that lot should have made a most glorious whining noise as the engine was spooled up.

Nah, that's two engines coupled together, you can only count that if this

                                  is a square 4

It was built on a custom crankcase but it is as you say a coupled engine but so was an Ariel square four and an RG500.

That link posted by Jason is a good one but doesn't tell the whole story.

When he first started blogging about this it made me wonder just where it was going, a lot of work for a static exhibit but then when he's sorted all the design out and realised what problems he might have and how to over come them, the builder, Paul Brodie then announce he was doing a limited production run on these bikes.

From what I can gather he's built 6 so far, all have sold for well over a quarter of a million dollars each and taken just over a year to build.

If we put that into the context of building a model which is probably over a longer period but not full time and you then take the value of that model, there is a massive difference but many even on this forum have the machinery and skills to build something like this IF you can spot the niche market.

Not bad retiring with one and a half million as opposed to selling a choo choo for 10k max ?

One bloke here built quite a nice V twin, well ten actually, that was John Britten, his own design and build of engine and gear box, and his own ideas of how a bike should be built, including using the engine as the frame. Sadly John died of cancer, and his dreams died with him, but his bikes are in collections and museums all over the world. The only one I'v seen lately was at Te Papa museum in Wellington (NZ). John was an artist as well as an engineer.

Back in the early 90s a 1:12 scale die cast model was produced at $(NZ)300, it was a very limited run so I don't know what ity would be worth now. For the real thing today, you would be lucky to get one for anything short of a million.
