According to a report in The Yorkshire Post today Thessco Ltd. of Sheffield, “one of the world’s largest manufacturers of silver brazing alloys, metal joining products and industrial silver alloys”, according to the report, has ceased trading.

Apart from this being the loss of yet another British based manufacturer, will this affect the supply of these type of products to the model engineering fraternity? I can’t answer that question because I have no idea of the suppliers to the retailers we are likely to deal with. Would anyone else have any idea?

          I found this:

Thessco SAS in France will continue to serve all its traditional precious metal markets both within the EU and the UK. To find out more, contact info@thessco.fr

Could cause the hobby trouble: many European firms prefer not to do business in the UK because of the Brexit overheads.  On the other hand, there’s a market here for Silver Solder and the other stuff made by Thessco, which is probably big enough for them to take the extra trouble.  My guess is prices will rise somewhat more than they would have done anyway:  material costs are rising worldwide at the moment, plus UK inflation is still hurting.

This is terrible news for the industry, and indeed, all the employees.  In terms of supply CuP Alloys are not affected so neither will our customers be. Our stock levels will take into account the increased demand.

Cheers Shaun. Were you one of the two at the Midland Model Engineering exhibition who I chatted to and …. drove a hard bargain with on the Friday? When I put it together I will mention CuP Alloys in my video.
