Yes, agree with all the above, but why does Susie (Leather worker ?) use this glue ? HOWSTICK 125.

      leather glue

The manufacturers say it is for temporary holding of leather ??

I suppose it is the difference between a professional craftsperson an an amateur like myself.

I look at the manufacturer's spec and use what they recommend, while a professional uses what they know from experience will do what they want it to do.

        Jim Young 2.

The use of staples on antique items is a real ‘no no’, if it is tacked when stripped then tacks it is when it goes back!

As a upholsterer of over 50yrs I have to disagree with your statement. I understand its not original but had staple guns been around then they would most certainly been used.

The do far less damage to the wood being fine wire and give a double fixing instead of one. Unless specified its common practice to use staples to fix the cover and use tacks to fix the Hessian on the bottom .That way it still gives the appearance of being tacked while not doing any damage to the frame.

There would be far more antiques chairs around using staples instead of tacks.

I find it very enjoyable, probably the best program on tv imo. Though it is the only one I watch. 🤣

I would like to see a bit more technical detail though, even if it was just naming the products being used. Obviously not brand names but chemicals etc.

Nothing to do with model engineering but if you want to extend your viewing I have just seen the last of the BBC documentaries on Dr Harold Shipman. Disturbing, but a superb set of documentaries.

It's probably about not giving all your secrets away, some of what you see on Salvage Hunters the Restorers is not the proper way of doing it either.

And what about the hardly-used S7?

If the experts like to bring their own tools, I wonder who owns it?

A recent episode is well worth watching – modern (1959) Swiss clock, cold cast artefact and Octopus Student's microscope.

PS the Myford is still there!
