The Pioneer Petrol Engine

Hi

 

Just received a set of L A Services (Engineers Emporium) castings for this engine as a pressie so keen to get started.

 

The plans are just that though; plans. There is very little information on the engine itself nor any wrinkles to watch out for in building same so I thought, before I got too far, that contact with others who may have experience in building the Pioneer might be useful.

 

I have found a description of the working principles and some details on ignition timing so have a fair idea of what it’s all about, also, I have asked the Wife for the DVD set by Rudy Kouhoupt on building a version of the Pioneer without castings as a Christmas pressie (beats another jumper), I reckon much of the information contained therein should be relevant.

 

Of course, if I were a real expert I wouldn’t need any information other than the drawings – but I aint!

Hi There

Rudi’s Pioneer is totally different to the casting set.

 

It is a great DVD set but is concerned with building a non compression engine mainly from aluminium blocks. No relation at all to the casting for Pioneer.

 

Would you like to write construction up for the Model Engineer?

Oh, thanks David for that information. I assumed because both projects are based on the same engine they would have many similarities but obviously not that simple. I think I’ll still get Rudi’s DVDs anyway because you liked them and I could well have a go at that one at a later date.

 

I too used to edit a specialist magazine for the British Amateur Television Club so had to smile at your suggestion of writing it up as I know how hard it can sometimes be to get material, however, I am fairly new to this lark and am by no means very experienced but, what I will do is to take notes and photo’s as I go along and, if it all works out OK I may well write it up and let you have a look at it – no promises!
