This new topic was suggested by a member who has helped out several other forum members with gifts of small tools, materials etc.

It's a more formal place to offer or request assistance in the form of surplus tools, materials, advice, loans of use of specialist machinery or tooling, or even a practical helping hand.

The only rule is that this MUST NOT BE FOR FINANCIAL GAIN!

        • Private sales of good  should be made using the free classifieds.
        • Commercial sales must be through proper adverts

Any posts appearing to break these rules will be deleted.

Now this does not mean you can't:

        • Cover postage/copying/mileage costs or other genuine expenses if someone helps you out.
        • Buy someone a pint or lunch as a thank you.
        • Make a donation to a charity agreed with the person who helps you (or to REMAP or TAD, for example) in lieu of payment.

If you don't have your location in your profile, please give a rough idea in your posts, also, please use PMs to exchange emails and telephone addresses, and do use common sense when sharing your details with strangers.

Please feel free to continue this thread to discuss this idea and how it might develop, but do start new threads for any offers or requests for assistance.

Just a note to say that the same rules apply to 'wants' as well as sales.

If you need a set of plans or a specific tool, for example, please place a wanted classified as this would normally be something that is sold.

This is more a place to borrow things and expertise or give away surplus items, such as Oompa's incredibly popular plastic!

          Thanks

          Neil

Mat I ask that anyone who requests and then receives help and advice be courteous enough to acknowledge the receipt of the help and also thank the kind person providing it.

This may sound a "given" but believe me I have offered and provided help to quite lot of forum members who do neither.

I'd like to echo Lambton's comment, I have had the same discourteous treatment many times and I sometimes wonders why I bother.

It is paricularly irksome when you have taken the trouble to post something as a gift and there is not even a 'thank you' even after asking if it got there.

I for one hope that you continue to bother, since I have found you to be both courteous and helpful in the past.

Sad to say, I have experienced the same thing ,although not from Members of this Forum. People simply don't bother to say Thanks !

Recently, I gave some unwanted bits to another poster, who wanted to help an impecunious friend in his village. He kindly made a donation to our club funds. So it was a win – win for both of us!.

Yes, donations to the donor's favourite charity, or to their M E Club funds is a splendid idea, and nice way of saying Thank You..

I'm afraid not, your emails will be sent direct to the seller.

Make sure you are not accidentally deleting the pre-entered text in the reply box, as if you do the seller won't know your email and will be unable to reply.

I have recently replaced the motor on my bantam lathe (serial AA223) and reused the old motor pulley of about 2 1/2 inch diameter. Testing the Spindle speed, the lathe appears to be only achieving about half speed, whilst the motor is running at full speed (2800rpm). I suspect the lathe ran at the same low speed prior to the motor exchange and that the cause is directly attributable to the motor pulley being too small. The lathe started life as a 3 phase, 2 speed machine and was converted to single phase at some unknown point in its history. It is then that I suspect that the original pulley was, for some unknown reason, swapped out along with the original motor.

can anyone please inform what the motor pulley diameter should be used to obtain the 1600 rpm at the spindle. The gearbox pulley looks original ( approx 6&rdquo.

Conundrum: 2” Scale Clayton Steam lorry  a new No 2 ( 11oz) injector from a reputable manufacture. Full flow water filter on the intake, tender vale to control flow, 3/16” thin water copper pipe to injector with 2 “easy” bends. ¼ x 40 clack valve ( Ball all free) No air leaks on supply pipe.

Turn cold feed on & a good flow, turn steam on & steam comes from  water outlet, injector won’t pick up, even when the steam supply is reduced. ( Tried at steam pressures from 50 >95) Have spoken to injector supplier who can’t understand what’s going on. Any ideas / thought’s.

Should also have said that the cones are in teh correct place and it is piped up correctly

Dave small injectors can be a pain in the ass, with my 3″ Burrell my injector make unknown with 1/4 pipework I turn on the cold water fully I then slowly turn on the steam listening very carefully for the point when the injector ‘picks up’ at this point I then back the water off I can hear the water to the boiler increasing but I have to leave some water coming from the overflow. Good cold water flow and good joints as not to allow air in are essential. If you feel your flow and pipework are good I would then be inclined to ask the supplier to exchange it.
