        Hi There

I expect there will be a Volume four so you lot had better start making suggestions as to what you would like to see in it.

Is the Nemett 15cc twin and 7.5cc single OK to start with?

        regards David

Surely if an editor is tasked with compiling a 'Best of' whatever, they should be afforded access to the complete archive and not be compiling from their own 'limited' archive!!

A poor show in my opinion and I am seriously considering sending it back and asking for a refund as it is most definitely not the 'Best Of' !!!!!

A complete waste of money IMHO and certainly does not live up to the pre-publication 'hype'!!

            Hi There

The office is 150 miles away.

It was not compiled from my limited archive.

I went through the indexes, selected articles and went to a supplier of Model Engineer to search for the articles I selected.

            regards David

I have got used to and have to accept your 'Hi There' greeting, but to address forum members as 'you lot' is a pretty poor show.

I think the bobcat/jaguar would be too similar to the Lynx in the current Vol3. and would requir a similar number of pages..

As I mentioned earlier compression ignition diesels are not ideal and whatever you choose would ideally be from still available castings or from barstock. Maybe a Westbury or Chenery design 4-stroke or glow.

Maybe a Kiwi as I have seen that cut from solid as well as using the castings.

Firefly would be a good one if the text were better and a bit more indepth, could always add in any of my build photos, the drawings are good

I know there were "issues" when DC wanted to publish Minnie on the Forum so its possible the family will also object to his engines being republished

                              Hi D
I don’t mind “you lot” either and would not dream of criticizing your efforts of trying to please all of the people some of the time, however if you had read more issues of ME as a child then you would as learn’ed as your seniors and not keep repeating articles and these threads, irrespective of new readers and shed eng guys who do-up all manner of stuff, learning all manner of which they can adapt from engineering illuminartea ramblings in mags and these threads, good job Dave, spread the word and keep the HOBBIES alive or we’ll all be golfers, god forbid

                                    100% AGREED Russ!

When I first started to use the forum I was constantly amazed how far most of the other contributors would go to help someone out and even if there were differing opinions on a matter a debate was as far as it went .
If I were new to this forum today I probably wouldn't come back.

There seems to be 3 or 4 forum users who wish to constantly moan about Magazine content , the Editor or the website and I wouldn't be surprised if any of them have never submitted an article , been an Editor or Webmaster .

Maybe there needs to be a thread started for such moaning and the moderators could re-direct any misplaced posts there so it does not detract from the enjoyment that the vast majority of forum users get by reading the various and sometimes bazaar questions that appear on it .

I was unaware that Articles could not be re- published because of the Authors family , I though that if it was already published in ME it would only be a copy of what has already been done .

I would liked to have seen the MASTIFF by Mason in the next Best of Magazine .

It is common practice for a Magazine to only purchase "First Publication Rights"

The Copyright of a submitted article is usually retained by the Author.

ref: article ownership, is it a correct assumption that significant time back issue if requested would arrive devoid of articles, or is it families would not receive any royalty for there use, rather than them feeling pride for their family members expertise and guidance of other, I don’t understand the real issue of reprints is “the best of ” a mine fields of that sort

Ian when the site first started up, DC1 put up quite a few articles under the main archive heading bar, virtually all of which have now been removed for various legal reasons, this is why DC1 has said he can only include things he has the copyright for which does again limit content.

My reasons for suggesting a single were that its les likely to take up the whole special with just one subject. I think 40 pages on one subject in a 80page mag is a bit much, maybe 4 main subjects of 20pages rather then one or two large ones and just a page or two left for the others.

                                                    Hi There

I found Model Engineer in the School library when I was 12.

I have read it ever since. That is how I started out in engineering, using what I learnt from Model Engineer.

                                                    regards David

                                                      Good afternoon all,

My goodness, this topic really is long-legged – I see that the OP was on 29th August, in which DC1 very clearly described what was in Special No. 3.

I certainly can sympathise with those who paid in advance then did not/have not receive their copy (yet?), and I especially join with him re the patronising response that Cornish Jack received – QUOTE: As a gesture of goodwill …… etc UNQUOTE.

But for those complaining about the content, especially bearing in mind that the contents of this mag were very clearly described in DC1's OP – AND were also available to look at on line (AND in WHS too apparently), I can only say that these posters remind me of the (IMO incomparable) John Cleese and "Fawlty Towers":

"Well what precisely did you expect to see from a Torquay hotel bedroom window Madam? Herds of Vildebeest sweeping majestically across the Veldt? The Sydney Opera House perhaps? Or maybe the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?"

IMO whether or not the Volume 3 "Best of ME" mag was or was not be "the best" is at best a moot point – not having access to all 100 years worth, personally I cannot say, and I doubt that many others can either. But I can say that we were all told exactly what was in the mag BEFORE we bought it, so I fail to see grounds for complaint re the content.

I suspect that a number of the "fings ain't what they useterbe" people here have simply out-grown the ME/MEW in that they have developed skills and knowledge to the extent that they no longer find these mags/s useful. OK, so be it. It'll probably happen to me one day (IF I live long enough). Meantime, personally I cannot see that all your whining advances our hobby – or these mags – one jot. If you don't like it don't buy it. Simples.

                                                      Krgds to all

I wonder where this post will end up? !!!!!!!!!!
