      Can anyone advise, please ?

I am getting exactly the same recorded message

Hello … this is Bank Security …

[or some-such] in a polite female voice

several times each day, from different ‘mobile’ numbers

I block them all … but the number just keeps changing.

      MichaelG.

I suggest you get a BT call blocker phone or phones.

Since I got mine I haven’t had any nuisance calls.

You can setup a list of blocked caller numbers, any on this list get a message saying they are blocked and your phone doesn’t ring.

Any number in your directory gets straight through.

Any other numbers get a message asking them to say their name and press a button. Your phone then rings with their name played to you. You can accept the call, send it to answerphone or block it.

In use, any nuisance calls don’t even cause your phone to ring.

I have had one of these for about 10 years and in all that time I’ve only had about 2 caller’s who have ever actually stated who they are.

You can see on the call list all the numbers that have tried to call, probably averages 2 rogue calls per day.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Government should enact laws forcing telephone providers to prevent cloning of phone numbers and only allowing ‘number withheld’ to bona fide organisations. Then, as I only know very few people who live abroad and they are in my directory I could have the facility to reject anything not originating in UK and not in my directory. I refuse to believe this cannot be done, it might be difficult, but that’s why IT people get big salaries</p>

Probably the same technology that gets GPS’s or What Three Words to get the wrong address for me. I’ve just looked on Google Earth and that’s wrong too.

No point in getting any kind of call blocking phone or simillar with the digital voice roll-out in progress….

POTS is dead long live VOIP. Except when the power is off or internet is down…..

Hello Michael, as I stated earlier I’ve had my call blocker phone for about 10 years and for five years I’ve also been on digital voice and it still works exactly the same.

The only issue I occasionally have, is when the call has a pre-recorded message which stops me from making a call out.

As I said in my earlier post, I have had my call blocking phone for a few years.

About 2years ago I switched to Virgin Media for my internet and phone so my phone is now VOIP.

Virgin provide a standard BT type phone socket from the router so I am still using my old phone.

                          It works just as before.

Sorry chaps … there is little point in me having already blocked dozens of numbers, when every new message from the nice polite lady originates from a previously unseen mobile number.

Michael, the call blocking phones don’t rely on you blocking individual numbers.

If the calling number is not in your speed dial list then the incoming caller has to make an announcement to say who they are before your phone even rings.

If they do this your phone rings and you can either accept the call or not. In practice the vast majority just end the call.

As I said earlier in ten years I have only had about 2 callers who have actually done this.

Just to reinforce what Andy says, this system does not rely on you blocking a particular number (although on mine you can do that if you wish).

It is the fact that the caller has to announce who they are and press a key to continue that stops the nuisance calls.

                                The phone doesn’t even ring.

I block calls on my mobile phone that I know are scam calls but they try with a slightly different number. Very annoying.

My home phone is wired and does not have a blocking feature so I do not answer it and let the call go to the message bank. I then call back if they leave a message. Telemarketers don’t leave a message.

In Australia, we have a “Do not call register” and commercial businesses must check with the register before making unsolicited calls. There are big fines if they do not comply.

I used to get daily calls from telemarketers and it has now dropped to less than 1 a month.
