      got an old drill press that was being thrown out as useless.

      got no power at all from motor prob wouldn't beat an egg.

      way to small for anything i would need anyway so was thinking of making tapping fixture with it.

      chuck is already removed and on arbor for use on lathe to hold centre drill's.

      was thinking of removing quill swapping bearings and turning new shaft to fit with tap holder on bottom and handle on top.

      in my head seem's to simple so am i missing something?

          Short answer = No

          Longer answer = If it was chucked-out as useless: make sure everything is 'square'.

            great cheers.

            was chucked as seriously underpowered struggles putting 4mm hole in 3/8 ply.

            you could stop it by holding chuck.
