Hello I am looking for plans for the FR loco Taliesin 2000. As one of the subscribers who paid for the actual loco to be built, I would like to make a 7/8" version to run on 45mm gauge. Just been reading David Payling's book Fairlie Locomotives of North Wales (highly recommended – definitely 5 star) and I seem to recall a reference in there to plans possibly in Model Engineer somewhere around 1995 to 2000. Unfortunately cannot find the reference again. Whatever plans were available (if any) would not be to the scale I require, but that is no problem. If anyone knows of references to these I would be grateful. I am really only interested in the details of the actual loco, rather than the model. The one I build will be variations on the parts I use for the G1 locos I build – see my website orion-models.co.uk. Alternatively it would be good to have access to the original FR CAD drawings for the loco. Most drawings done for modellers are a little small and do not give sufficient detail or dimensions.

        Thanks

I have found the reference to the Model Engineer drawings – it was actually in Taliesin 2000 Newsletter No. 5 of January 1995. But I still do not know what issues of Model Engineer the drawings appeared in.

Using the index to ME at **LINK** does not mention any such plans on a search for Taliesin

From the ME index so perhaps contacting Peter Pardington through Ickenham might be a route to some help.

It both annoys and amazes me how seldom (ie never) preserved rail/boat/other museums and the like have no recognition whatsoever of the modelling fraternity. It would be nice if they provided packs of useful information on their rolling stock and locos including photos and drawings in the scale of your choice.

Hello, thnks for the replies. Looking at an index of ME it would appear from the dates that the Pardington Taliesin is probably the 1876 original version (with or without later modifications) – it is too early to be the 1999 "rebuild". It also appears from the index that the series on building the later version never happened. So back to square one. I have some drawings of the later version and a lot of photos, so I will just have to start from there.
