The main jobs were:
Clean black paint off everything (especially carb!)
Weld up cowl from old storage heater panel
Re-attach flywheel
Turn up starter pulley
Clean carb
Make new throttle linkage and fix governor flap
Make petrol tank from fudge tin
new HT lead, and plug
clean points (one of the few things not covered in black paint)
Fuel tap (using 10 year old stainless taper blank and taper D-bit)
Add balance weight to flywheel (four broken vanes)
Base from salvaged timber
Clean out old oil and refill with fresh
Repaint
Stater handle and coil.
An LO! it ran for a fews seconds on the first pull, and ran happily after about three tries. I’m making a few final tweaks, most important is a throttle and cale linkage. In due course it should have a de-coke (don’t look inside the plug hole!) but I don’t want to pay £20 for a full gasket set. And I need something like a 3-4″ pulley.
Total cost of the rebuild was about £20, and could have been less.
If you get the chance to do a similar job, have a go – it’s great fun!
