        Bit of a shot in the dark but…….

        I’m looking for some small pinions for a one off project and it occurs to me that the planet gears from a S-A hub gearbox might just be around the right size.
        I has got to be 40 years since I took one of these apart so my memory is a little faded but I think there are 4 pinions around 3/4″ diameter
        Can anyone who might just have some of they in their junk box please tell me the general dimensions?

        Bore, face width, no of teeth and overall diameter are what I need to assess suitability.

        TIA

        Bob

          There is a pdf file which I think may give you some of the information you require.  I can’t see how to attach the file but you’ll find it at:

          It’s only 450Kb, but contains details of the gears, no. of teeth, etc.

          Regards,

            Thanks John,

            I’ve found the gears in question. For anyone else needing the information. the (relatively) common AW hubs use 4 planet gears of nominal 11/16″ OD, 5/8″ PCD 20 teeth of 32DP.
            Face width is 5/16″

            Regards

              @iansc

              I’v got a stripped down hub right here.The gear on the shaft is 20 t x11/32″,the planet gears are 21 t,and the outside ring has 60 t.

                I’ve been surprised how many different variants there are that folk have mentioned elsewhere since my original enquiry was posted in a few forums. Add to the the gearing variations all the different number of spoke holes in the hub and there are a fair few different types around.
