      Hi folks!

I has received the prefrabricated Stuart D10 and i am assemble the steam engine. But there is treaded holes in the cylinder for drain cocks, wich pitch is in the 5/32 tread size? 32 or 40 treads. Also i has not the tap size to check wich pitch size is in the 5/32. Impossible to measure with measure tool for pitch since the hole is small.

And in addition.. the quality of the machined kit of the Stuart D10 is horrible!! Also the surface is machined without honing in the cylinder to example. The fit is sloppery such as between piston and cylinder and more.. Also i am reworking the new parts for the steam engine with correct fit and all surfaces is grinded/honed. To much money to have the machined kit of the Stuart D10 who has horrible quality work by Stuart Models for £646!

      Regard Jens Eirik

          Hi Jens

Screw a bit of birch dowel into the hole and back out again, you will then have a nice external thread you can measure.

Surely you are going to let them know how bad the machining is?

Alan, buy a machined kit and you will learn out how much you will do it with the sloppery parts and coarse surface where the parts is moving togheter..

As I keep saying send it back and do not try to correct it yourself. These suppliers will never learn if we do not complain loudly on every occasion. Do not tolerate poor quality just because it is hobby related. I suspect all of us would reject a sub-standard television, i phone, digital camera, pair of trousers, car tyre etc.etc. so why do we allow the very poor quality control standards to persist in model engineering?
