        It's the 31st and i haven't had a fag for a month ! £300 quid saved..I'm sucking on a vape thing ,bubble gum , raspberry and apple…well done me. 38 years of smoking 20- 30 a day… Don't seem to feel any different mind ?

Well done! And keep up the good work. 300 quid a month, that's a heck of a lot of tools and workshop equipment you can buy now, and every month after that. It's worth it for that alone. It might take more than the first month for all the tar to come out of your lungs but they reckon its never too late to stop and still benefit from it.

Been on the vaper for around 4 years now, miles cheaper than the fags and no morning cough

Smoked for 35 years and thought I'd never get off 'em

Costs about 200 quid a year if you know what you're doing, instead of 3 grand, the government loses about 2 billion pounds a year from every million of us who give up

Well done! Keep up the good work.

You will notice the difference soon when any sort of exercise etc becomes much easier.

Takes a while to get the junk out, smokes have about 1500 chemicals.

The biggest changes for me were the cough, not getting any more really bad colds, and bleeding like a stuck pig when you get cut.

Ciggies thicken your blood bigtime which is bad for your heart but great for healing cuts and wounds.

When I saw the doc last week he commented that I had put on 3 Kg. I told him that it was his fault as he was the one who told me to give up the ciggies last year.

So now I'm on a diet including no more pints of Guinness and eating heaps of rabbit food.

Exercise is active fishing (lure casting), chasing Free Flight models and feral animals across paddocks (deer, wild dogs, feral cats and rabbits). To make it more 'sporting' I have resorted to using my Hawken .45 black powder muzzle-loader.

On a windless day one has to wait for the smoke to clear to determine if one actually hit the target but it's quite accurate although it does ruin the rabbits a bit.

Well done in stopping, I have never smoked but my Brother in law has smoked heavily from an early age. He has stopped now after more than 50 years but it is heartbreaking to see him try and walk up even the slightest gradient.

government loses about 2 billion pounds a year

Government will get it back elsewhere – no doubt about that. But the NHS will (eventually) be saving a billion or so.

What surprised me was the number of amputees (fag related) who collected outside the hospital entrance to get their drag. Slow learners or of weak resolve. They will steadily work their way out of the system…. Even the government didn't really care while taxation income exceeded the NHS costs (until some bright spark pointed out the social costs as well.

Btw, do you know why the government hates thieves? It's because they don't like the competition!

Basically you have stopped damaging other people, babies are prone to passive smoking and mothers who smoke have smaller babies!

I have never smoked but have become allergic to tobacco residues.

In the old days, smokers used to eat a polo instead of each ciggy, so they gotr fat and their teeth fell oput

I tried vaping, but found it completely tasteless.

But it was being compared to years of smoking pipefuls of good dark shag!

It took me about 8-12 weeks to get past the worst of it and about 2 years to make the full transition to vaping where no more cravings exist, you get addicted to some of the other crud in cigarettes, not just nicotine

Had a ciggy about 2 weeks ago as an experiment after the pub and it was pointless, just gave me a bad taste in the mouth

Still a nicotine addict (means I stay thin -ish) but without any of the side effects

I don't use "flavourings" because those are unknown chemicals being burned and inhaled, pure nicotine and propylene glycol only for me, took a while to get used to it but don't even notice now

All these people living longer has ruined the final salary pension and everyone is having to work longer for a worse pension. Maybe he obesity will take over from smoking to get the life expectancy down again, although I have never smoked maybe the high blood pressure and obesity will get me.

Quit in 1985 after ~25 years. Went cold turkey for a month then, when I couldn't stand it any longer, used the gum (only thing available then) for a month then started cutting them in half for a month. Next month cut them in half again. After that they got a bit small so continued the progression by diluting them with regular gum (they don't actually mix that well but needs must).

After a year at that I was so close to 100% regular gum that it didn't matter. At that point I had a decent size heart attack. Can't win – I swear it was the quitting that did it. Seriously, I found the gradual weaning relatively painless to stick to.

I still have a bunch of heart issues probably related to the earlier smoking – ventricular arrythmia; afib; icd implant etc. It is possible to quit. Do it sooner rather than later.
