I have a Stanley hand drill and I have lost the chuck jaws and springs. I have tried Stanley but they do not supply spare parts for their drills.Ipurchased the drill around 1950-yes 1950-the drill spindle and chuck thread is 7/16″x26tpi.Has anyone suggestions?

You could buy a standard 1/2″ chuck and drill out the back. Then make a sleeve internally threaded with 7/16″ x 26 tpi. The sleeve could then be loctited ito the back of the chuck.
The other way would be to dismantle the drill and turn down the spindle end to 3/8″ and thread this to suit a standard 3/8″ chuck.

There is a good chance of finding drill with a good chuck at boot sales. Have seen several over the years, usually in a box with rusty spanners.

I’v got a spare chuck if you want it, you’ll have to come and get it. There are three or four complete drills at the local secondhand shop, about $NZ10 eachie 3 or 4 pound UK.

Glad to see david williams getting help. He did not give the model number of his venerable drill and it is not surprising if spares are not available today. In their 1992 price list, however, Stanley list spare jaws and springs for all of their hand drills including two models then discontinued. Their motto then was “The best tools you can lay hands on”.
