I have been making up a ST governor for a ST beam engine . The spring like belt supplied is far too long , Has anyone else found this ? or what else can be used as a belt ?

      regards Phil

I have one of those belts, but never used it. I've assumed it joins just like a Meccano belt where one end is a tight spiral that you 'screw' into the open end. It must be joined in some way?

Just as Phil says one end spirals down to a smaller size that just twists into the open end. Chop a bit off teh full size open end and keep doing that until you get the length you need.

Just took the one off mine and it is 236mm end to end, think they are 300mm as supplied

Oil seals, these have a similar spring 'belt', either get one or two from old seals, or get one the right size from a bearing supplier, they can be joined to make longer belts.

On the ST S9 I rebuilt I used a small square section rubber belt from a tape recorder(video/ audio can't remember), round belt just as good, just don't try a rubber band.
