Hi, I need a bit of help. I am building a smokebox cylinder out of 2.5mm brass sheet. This will be a split box with a strip of 4mm brass shaped to suit running along the inside which both half’s of the smokebox screw on to. Given the thickness of the cylinder I think that 4mm countersunk screws are the largest I can go. So what spacing do you think I need to make the smokebox airtight and also keep the ease of splitting the cylinder when needed. Thanks.

Michael, the thing is you already have rivet spacings in your drawing for the circumference of the smokebox at the boiler end and smokebox door end, why not continue in that vein?. Its not about the size of the screws but how well the component parts fit before the screws are put in. Good idea but its a bit more work and how much depends on the scale.
