        I like Clerihews:

        Wayne Rooney

        Could never be a Moonie

        As they have to relinquish

        All of their chinkies

        I'll get me coat…

        John.

As somebody else very succinctly put it:

          E. Clerihew Bentley,

          Incident'ly,

          Was the man

Who invented Clerihews which rhyme but don't scan.

Well the's better than most modern poetry, which neither rhymes nor scans. We used to call that prose in my young day!

My favourite form of poetry is alliterative verse, like Beowulf

Has this thread drifted ever so slightly from its title?

                Does it matter?

Or, to bring it back in line, what might we do to fairly easily and without involving too many people realign it ?

                Cheers, Tim

                The trouble with grammar

At least according to my old english teacher who had rather an unfortunate stammer

Is that most of the guidance expounded as rules

Was invented by p-p-p-p-p-pedantic old fools.

I like a bit of that too, with maybe a dash of sibilance thrown in: This is the stickiest situation since sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun (Blackadder), being a personal favourite

As this thread is becoming increasingly silly, GeorgeC might at least have indulged us with a Clerihew

                      **LINK**

Like a'buddy else, most people think I am a clerihew but I am a ClArihew, no relation to the poetic clerihew so no idea what this thread has got so aerated about and wrongly involving me as an ignorant bystander is surely getting sillier by the minute.

Hopefully this post is riddled with split infinitives and bad grammer, and speling mistaks and usin Doric tae git ma pint ower. winksmiley

I think this deserves an award of some sort. Well done, Tim!
