SPEEDY Lagging

I am making LBSC’s 5 inch Speedy loco, and there is no mention of lagging anywhere on the plans. I have seen models with freelance cylinder lagging.

 

Is this an omission, or was the real thing laggless ? If so, what ‘advantage’ is there in going without lagging ?

As far as I am aware LBSC didnt lag his boilers. If you have already built the smokebox then you may have to cobble something up to give you a bit more room.It will obviously run without lagging but will be better if you can arrange something.

There was a thread in a forum which I am trying to track down which mentioned a material that you could dampen and mould around the boiler or pipes I should have taken a note of it but as usual did not. I remember it saying builders merchants but went in and someone built like a ***** door said duh (just like homer) end of enquiry.

I do not remember LBSC ever mentioning lagging, In his strip of back garden I do not think that it was ever needed.

 

So can anyone remember what the material was !!!
