Anybody else watch Speed Dreams about blokes building race bikes in their garden sheds to take them to the Bonneville salt flats?

Lots of lathes (saw a big Emco) pillar drills and an Elliott shaper in action

Being a biker who bought a lathe, mill and shaper to mod my bikes I thoroughly enjoyed it

I am back again for those bike lads with an interest in LSR speed attempts here is a link to another forthcoming record contender piloted by James Toseland and created by Alex Mcfazden.

              **LINK**

Alex Mcfazden's Norton Powered rotary engined Penetrator Streamliner was the first to set a UK National record over 200mph some years ago.

A man of many talents regarding fast machines.

I recorded the first episode and watched it last night. Nearly fell off my chair when the bloke donned mask, gloves, heavy boots, big coat – and then proceeded to pour molten aluminium into ingots, wearing SHORTS!!

                  Health and safety gorn mad!

I was exactly the opposite thinking how much they could get done in their back gardens by not adhering to the H&S nazis! Wonderful, calamitous, bizarre inventing. I know that two of the backyard crews were professionals (Chris and Oz) as they both worked in Chris' chopper shop but it was fantastic. Reminded me of reading Sparey's book. Life must have been less boring and more exciting int he sheds of the 50's and 60's

I agree with John Coates as a competitor in the late 1960 to mid 1970 it was a fantastic time.

The lads of my era building racing sidecar outfits and sprint machines etc. in sheds and garages some with little money but loads of enthusiasm.

It's great to see that spirit is still alive today.

Yet again, to clarify, H&S regulations apply only to commercial premises and workplaces and not to private workshops. the full title is 'The Health and Safety At WORK Regulations'.

What has this guy donning his safety gear got to do with the H&S executive? He chose to protect himself with his own well used equipment as far as I could see, whether he wore shorts or not was up to him.

Sounds more like the Moaners and Groaners club "gorn mad" to me

Oh dear! What was suposed to be a "dig" at the health and safety advocates seems to have backfired. I'm all for people using common sense in what they do, either at work or at home in and out of their sheds. Without them, there would be no Darwinian Awards. (Google it, if you don't know what I mean!)

Sorry John – mea culpa !

I'm a big fan of the Darwin Awards. Personal favourite being the chap who strapped a turbo boost jet engine to his Chevy Impala. Or maybe the rattlesnake juggling rednecks!
