speed control dc motor problem.

HI, I not good with electronics but im rigging up a dc motor to run a variable speed homemade grinder to use with 6″ diamond discs. The motor (110v brushed dc )is something i took out of something else ages ago. It has a KB electronics KBIC-120 control board operated by a potentiometer knob. The thing is it doesnt completely stop the motor ,it still revolves very slowly. Is this just a faulty pot which needs replaced?? Everything else seems fine.

Whilst not impossible, unlikely to be a faulty pot.  Instead, check the internal ‘Min Speed’ trim-pot, from the manual:

I see the controller is fitted with a plug-in ‘Horse Power Resistor’, which has to match the motor.  Check it’s the right size.

Hi Dave, heres the photo of the pot and board. They were both taken out of the same piece of equipment (a ball grinding mill from a closed down Duracell battery factory in Wales years ago). The pot turns smoothly with no juttering ,just doesnt completely stop. Is it the red one in the bottom of the photo that says min?

Went ahead and adjusted the red one  and problem solved thanks very much. I turned the max one a bit as well which has increased the speed slightly.
