      @neilwyatt

      I have looked back through some of the queries IO receive and topics that have come up over the years as Readers Tips in MEW. Here are some specific questions to which I invite people, epsecially people who have never won a Reader’s Tip before to respond.

      Uses for neodymium magnets – I have seen some great ideas for using them in craft and modelling projects. There must be dozens of handy uses around the workshop.

      What are the most cost-effective paints and surface treatments for the workshop, and how do you succesfully apply them?

      How do you keep things sharp? Do you have a tip for scalpel blades and craft knives? How do you touch up your HSS tools to reduce the need for re-grinding them?

      Have you got any uses for worn out or broken tooling?

      Do you have any tools intended for other hobbies you have repurposed for metalworking?

      Have you any tips for settings tools, getting the best results with 3D printing, sorting useful metal from junk in the scrap box, joining difficult materials (e.g. soldering aluminium or welding cast iron)?

      Tips on other topics are welcome, of course!

      PLEASE!!!! Don’t just post your tip below – if you do, you won’t win a prize! You have to submit them by email following the rules below:

      We have £30 in gift vouchers courtesy of engineering suppliers Chester Machine Tools for each month’s ‘Top Tip’. Email your workshop tips to meweditor@mortons.co.uk marking them ‘Readers Tips’, and you could be a winner. Try to keep your tip to no more than 400 words and a picture or drawing. Don’t forget to include your address! Every month we’ll choose a winner for the Tip of the Month will win £30 in gift vouchers from Chester Machine Tools. Visit http://www.chesterhobbystore.com to plan how to spend yours!

      Please note that the first prize of Chester Vouchers is only available to UK readers. You can make multiple entries, but we reserve the right not to award repeat prizes to the same person in order to encourage new entrants. All prizes are at the discretion of the Editor.

      Thanks

      Neil
