Trawling through ebay as usual, I came across something that could be interesting for modelmakers. The well known tool firm Chronos has a number of BA threaded bolts in steel with smaller than standard head sizes.

Most of the ME suppliers also do the smaller hex such as EKP Blackgates and Reeves

It is also possible to get small hex metric which I use a lot

At the museum, we have close to 200000 BA fasteners donated when a big shop needed space for something they could sell. Having a rotary table means any size head is easy to make on a mill.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Is anyone aware of a UK supplier of Hex headed 2, 2.5 and 3mm stainless steel screws which have the right engineering look an feel about them as opposed to the more commonly available fittings as used in electronic kit?</p>

You could try Polly/Bruce but the last time I spoke with them they had very little stock.

I get my small hex metric fixings from GHW in Germany and Knupfer is another source from the same neck of the woods.

Polly say they hope to start stocking model engineering style metric fasteners within a couple of months. Items will sourced from Germany in response to what they say has been a continued level of interest.
