I originally buried this request in another thread and not surprisingly got no response, so I'm putting it here, as well.

Work is progressing – slowly – on my automatic boring head, and I'm looking ahead to when I can start putting it together. However, I will need a small compression spring of specific dimensions. Although they are available from the likes of Lee Springs and Flexo, the cost of postage and packing/minimum order charge means I will have to pay in the region of £20 for 5 springs!. I was hoping that somebody can point me in the direction of a supplier who will send me one or two springs for the cost of a first class stamp and envelope. I've tried all the usual suspects but to no avail and an ebay search only throws up generic springs or boxes of assorted ones. The size I need is free length = 15 to 20mm, internal diameter = 4.1 to 4.5mm, solid length = 8.0mm, wire size 0.8 to 1.0mm. Flexo No. BM-1937-2M or Lee spring LC035C04S.

Or, maybe you have something suitable in your workshop that I can have in exchange for some beer tokens?

      Thanks,

      John

I've had similar problems in the past but a local spring manufacturer ,www.ashfieldsprings.com have always been very helpful and supplied the odd spring as a free sample. Might be worth a try.

I have had odd springs wound in Brum for the cost of a drink. I am 30 miles away so by the time I've travelled there and back not much saving but worth it to get the right spring.

I cannot find those springs in the Flexo cat. nor in the Lee cat. ? I was trying to check the full spec as I may have some. Both web sites say, not found.

Could always wind one 40mm long and cut it in half.

                Regards Ian

Just been having a look through my boxes of springs, and didn't find anything suitable. However, I did spot a windscreen wiper arm tension spring about the correct size.

How about a trip to your local car spares for one, and then stretch it suitably so make it a compression spring?

If you download the 'Polly' catalogue, there is a list of stainless spring stock in 12" lengths on P58 (?)

                      Maybe something there suitable ?

I'm typing this one-handed. The other one contains four springs, Lee LC-035C-04-S. If you will email me at Nigel at PK dot co (and another dot) uk, with your address, I'll put 'em in an envelope for you!

Well done – so quickly that my offer to send him some wire to wind his own would be too late …

                            Regards, Tim
