I've made this thing out of a Ukelele neck and pieces of an old mahogany table.

It actually works, it has two pickups the magnetic one and a piezo one in the bridge.

So now you can lean on an electric lamp post at the corner of the street

Maybe Stub mandrel will let you post a video on his youtube channel so we can hear what it sounds like 🎶.

I have seen people playing a ukulele bass a couple of times of an electro acoustic construction, the strings were massive but the sound was excellent, amazing from such a small instrument.

My brother has one, part of my inspiration, but it's lot bigger than the above!

                  I have a soft spot for basses…

I've just bought a bass: it's an early 90's non-graphite neck Status. I've not researched it yet but the guy in the shop knew quite a bit about these guitars. No photo yet as I've left it round at Mrs Metaller's.

The plan, as it's rather tatty and scratched and only cost £200, is to customise it cosmetically. If I actually do it I'll make a build log for on here.

You will have to bring it out here, our locals have a Ukulele Orchestra, and they are quite enthusiastic players.

                          £200 for a status?

I thought I was doing well at £130 for the 5-string Hohner!

I was going to be clever and say 'bass viol' then those very words appeared under my mouse pointer, so I won't…

Sadly, I don't play the viol. I made it for the son of a work colleague a few decades ago and it came back to me fairly recently by a strange and circuitous route. I do manage to knock out a few renaissance tunes on my lutes. Mind you, if I ever finish the Chitaronne I should be able to trump you on "how low can you go?"

What tuning do you use on your Ukibass?

For first fling ADGC, the only thing I can promise is it won't end up in Uke tuning

The string spacing is quite wide so suited to fingerstyle, so straight fourths or fifths would be OK. Might end up like a mandolin.

Yes, very close Rod, Tasmanian Blackwood is closely related to Koa. I resawed the Blackwood from timber I bought and carved the back and top from inch thick blanks. I made another arch top from traditional figured maple then this one.
