      I’ll give McMaster a go.  Do you know how good McMaster Carr spring models are?   The CAD spring I downloaded from someone else is incomplete: looks OK but is rigid and doesn’t behave like a spring when moved.

      Possibly my approach is wrong and I need to emulate springs with a motor.  Another unexplored SE feature!

        I doubt that any downloads from commercial sites will be ‘adjustable parts’ – most likely to be ‘dumb solids’.

          I feared the worse!  Never mind,   I hope not to need adjustable parts that often, and catalogue downloads save time elsewhere.

          On the plus side springs and other issues are extending my SE skills.  Quite fun, though it makes me grumpy when stuff I expect to be easy wastes a few hours and then it turns out to be easy when you know how.
