      Hi,
I have been having real problems with pages loading yesterday and today

Is this something I or the computer have now caused or has anyone else experiencing the same frustrating slowness – sometimes minutes from page to page.

      Any comments would be appreciated.

      Regards – Ramon

          Hi Ramon,
I have just tried loading various forum posts and the seem to load at a reasonable speed. (About two seconds) I do not know about yesterday.)
          Les.

Thanks Les, Two seconds eh? I wish.

I just have this sneaking feeling the cause lies within this box of tricks but I have no idea where to look.

I doubt it will sort itself so I guess it will have to go to the sick bay!

            Thanks again – Ramon

Ramon, are you having problems with this website or is it slow for the rest of the internet? I have found this site to be quite slow at certain times of the evening, but at the moment it seems to be running at an acceptable speed.

You could try a speed test  to see if your connection is running slowly. If you suspect it is a “nasty” causing you problems I recommend running malwarebytes anti spyware.

Thanks Mark, yes it does appear to be just this website though it has improved slightly this afternoon. I’ve done the normal things that are in my extremely limited computer bank – defragged, dumped all file and cookie history and ran Spybot and AVG scans. Nothing apparently untoward there. Hopefully it will just be down to ‘weeknd drain’ on the server. Thanks anyway
                regards – Ramon

When sites seem slow etc I check my connection with:

Then I know if its my PC, my connection or the site.

                    Hi all,
The other day  I came across  a tip on the web for way of possibly improving your broadband connection speed by up to 15% The original tip suggested fitting a product BT sell called an “I Plate” this fits to the new type BTNE5 master socket.
I did some more research to find out what it did. It is a filter on the bell wire. This led me to another tip which said to save buying one of the just disconnect the bell wire (Terminal 3 in the master socket.) If you have OLD phones you cannot do this as it will stop the bell working. If all your phones are fairly new then they only need the two wires. I was doubtful if it would work but I tried it anyway. It did improve the speed in my case.
                    Les.

Fitted an I plate some time ago, my best is 4.9mb and typically 4.3mb away from the ebening home from school time when the ntework does slow down to around 3.6mb. BT’s price is around 3 times what you need to spend!!

The text below suggests a solution that doesn’t involve cutting wires and is easily reversible.
It worked for me with an immediate and noticeable speed increase.
                        (Text copied from this site)

‘If you do not have an NTE5 master socket with a removable lower half or if your extensions are all connected using plug-in adapters or splitters, it is possible to disconnect the bell wire by the following method which has worked OK for me.

‘Cut a thin strip of electrical insulating tape 3mm wide and 40mm long and stick it lengthways along the plug that goes into your master socket. Place the tape so that it covers the two middle pins (3 and 4), but leaves the two adjacent pins (2 and 5) exposed. Wrap the tape back along the other side of the plug so that it is stays in place when inserted.

‘This will disconnect the bell wire, without the need to cut or remove any wires.
Check that the phones still ring OK. If a problem does arise the tape can be easily removed’

I’m now experiencing the same thing, sometimes more than a minute to load pages. Never seen it like this before. Usually it takes just a couple of seconds. The rest of the net seems alright so connection speed is ok. Dare say it will get sorted. This is an excellent forum, by the way.

I’ve only been on line regularly for a few weeks. The site can be tortuously slow, especially at weekends. I reckon over a minute to lead a page.

Connection here is fairly slow – aboput 1.3 Mbs – but not THAT slow.

I think that the site may be a victim of its own popularity.

For what it’s worth, it took 63 seconds for the original, unedited, version of that commment to load and the page to refresh.

Left this thread, tried another thread, returned here by using “My Postings” each stage only took 3 seconds each, I am not so sure it is this site you are having problems with. I am using Firefox + XP on this computer.

In my very limited experience of the web this site is just about the fastest to load! We cant get broadband, speeds are measured in Kbs, not Mbs, but only takes a few secs. for this to load, up or down.

Firefox and XP here too, but still slow. I notice Kwil was online 9:00 am, I was at 9:00pm.

Could be contention issues, locally or at the server?

Interesting to read the above – for me it’s marginally better than at the weekend but still  painfully slow especially slow when loading from favourites – slightly better using Google. Doesn’t seem to be so on other sites though.
Time from hitting the post button to the posting also seems particularly bad 1-2 mins at times. (This one took 35 secs)
