      What diameter, thickness and tooth count would people recommend for a slitting saw for slicing bearings and eccentric straps as found on model sized steam engines.

          3", 1/32" not too critical tooth count. run them slowly

              And make sure you use a coarse tooth slitting saw. The fine pitch saws are really only suitable for slotting screw heads and the like. If you use them to take a decent cut the chances are that the swarf will choke the gullet and cause a jam.

                  Whatever you use, DO NOT use a key to the arbor.

                  If it jams, then you will definitely need a new saw! And if it shatters, the debris might hit you.

                  Mostly, I use a 1/16 saw for this sort of work.

                  Keep the feed slow; work on the basis of 0.001"/tooth.
