Singer sewing machine

Hi Guys

I’m currently restoring a Singer 29K15 cobblers sewing machine. When I got it it was completely seized and several parts are missing. Some parts are still available but I’m struggling to find some 5/8″ diameter 8 tooth spur gears. Is there anyone here that might know someone who could manufacture these or point me to someone who has a stock of old singer sewing machine parts?  I may have a go but think it might be beyond my skill set.

As well as College Sewing, as per Michael’s link, I had stuff from Trojan as well

Some of the Chinese made stuff really doesn’t fit that well, but at least folk on this forum are likely to have access to a workshop.
I had some amusement fitting a bell cranks to my 29K4 a little while ago; I appreciate some K4 parts are slightly different to later machines.
I documented that on the Singer 29 and Other Cobblers Facebook group; they seem a helpful and friendly bunch

Hi Mike

A man after my own heart.

I have a Singer 201 to which I’ve fitted a 24V 100W brushless DC motor and controller to provide servo like speed control. This provides more torque to enable light leather stitching at low speed. I’ve been looking for a 29K to handle tougher leather but most are too costly for my occasional use. The Chinese stitchers, which are based on the Bradbury machine, are cheap but need work to improve their action.

Several people have already shown where spare parts for Singers are available but if push come to shove HPC gear in the UK may be able to provide gears if they are standard metric or Imperial formats.

Thanks all for the links. College have some parts for the 29K 71,2,3. But mine is the earlier 29K15. I could buy some parts but they’re not cheap and I’m not sure if they will fit well. I have a lathe and mill but have never made gears (Yet)

I have not heard of Trojan Sewing but will check out their website. I will check with Singer 29 and other old cobblers site too.

At 8 teeth you are unlikely to be able to replicate them with an involute or single point cutter as there is likely to be some undercutting needed.

EDIT having looked at a couple of gears on the Trojan site they don’t look to be a standard profile anyway so a case of grinding up a single point tool.

I watched an interesting video on You Tube earlier on the Andys Machine site

I may go that route if I cant find a supplier. I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy a dividing head ;->
