      Dear all,

I have a Roundhouse Lady Ann locomotive which has 'Simplified Walschaerts valve gear'.

In regards to the 5 inch gauge Welshpool Resita I'm building, would it be ok to use a simplified Walschaerts gear on a larger model?

From the basics I understand that it can't be notched up so I'm looking for some advice.

Any ideas will be much appreciated

      Regards,

      Tom

          hi tom,

          build it properly.

the extra few evenings work is totally insignificant in the overall timescale of building a loco and you will be rewarded with superior performance of the loco.

          cheers,

          julian

            Hi Julian,

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure wether to simplify as I'm having a few problems designing the Walschaerts valve gear as the valve travel is rather large (20mm valve travel with 80mm stroke cylinders)

            Regards,

            Tom
