As a brief respite from clockmaking, I made these bending rolls. It was a pleasant change to feel I knew what I was doing!!!img_2518.jpg

Good work David. What are the extra holes on the end plates used for ?

Is it the Geo Thomas design scaled up?

                      Hello Paul,

                      Thank you.

Well—– I could say they were for cooling! But the two end plates were dowelled together to maintain concentricity and rather than attempt to stop boring half way through, I carried on.

                        Hello Duncan,

Don't know the origin of them but the plans are from Hemmingway. If scale helps, the rolls are 10" long.

Looks a good job. I would have said the extra holes were made so that it could be for either left or right handed operation.🙂

Question: What is the minimum diameter you can roll!

Thank you NDIY, You're right, that would have sounded much better smiley

Minimum diameter would be about 1 3/8" (ish)

The Hemingway design is GHT, and includes the later mod. of gears to connect the 2 main rolls.

GHT also specified small tommy-bars on the adjusting screws to give a visual reference when operating them.

                                Hello Clive,

Yes, this does have the gears which connect the main rolls. As for the tommy bars, thank you for the info', I couldn't see the point of them so I left them out.

I picked up one of the Hemmingway kits from John Moore (Bogstandard) in his workshop clearance.
Whilst I accept we have different machinery and you probably have more experience than me, how long do you reckon it took you to build it. (yes, I know it's not a race)

Just for info on the item: **LINK**

I’m not in the market – my rolls are considerably larger than that but definitely need a clean up – they are stashed away in a large cupboard and I have no inside space to manipulate them.🙁

Cheers David, not one I'll be starting in the immediate future, as I've got a little surface grinder to get working properly. In order to do that, I need to make a bevel straightedge; in order to do that I'm on with making a couple of scrapers etc.
