Should I be seeking to get a boiler certificate for my Minnie traction engine?

Is is needed given I don't intend on using it in public places?

What are the advantages of having one – apart from someone independently inspecting my work?

      I don't have a local model engineering club I am a member of. Nearest is 30miles away…

I suggest you carry out the regime of a haydraulic test and steam test with a witness and maintain records as if it were done by an 'official' tester. That way you will be seen to be acting in a responsible manner. The only missing elemint is a calibrated reference pressure gauge.

You should also check your household insurance details, as if the boiler does fail the insurance company will not pay out!!

Just had a look at my wife's new cappuccino machine. 15 bar working pressure – that's over 210psi.

As the capacity must be in the region of 200-250cc these things must be very close to the 3 bar-litre limit…
