Does anyone know what the purpose is of the large round spigot on the front of the head casting, please. Perhaps other owners may have an idea as to what it is for?

If you look at the photos on the lathes.co.uk site it seems to be where the horizontal spindle fits.

It is two two inch diameter holes, and the horizontal overarm fits through them, also used for the slotting head and the vertical head. This enables the vertical head to be swivelled about 45 degrees left and right.
