As I am cutting dovetails I decided to buy a shaper gauge.I saw an advert on Ebay showing a shaper with an extention pin and I thought the same one in a box, when it arrived the gauge was in a plastic packet minus the extention pin.I tried to contact the company on the phone but it was never answered and I had to get through to a helpline and explained the missing pin.Their reply said that the one shown with the pin was a stock item and the one with the box was the one for sale.I feel I have been done.

name the seller as well as leave a poor comment – can you claim back the money ?

Was the listing covered by ebay’s ‘guarantee’ ?

… If so, make use of that ‘item not as described’

I agree with MG put in a complaint to Ebay and in all likely hood if you get an unsatisfactory result from the seller Ebay will step in and refund all of your money.

              BTW

I just bought a rechargable fly zapper for the caravan from Amazon. The sales blurb said it could be recharged with the supplied lead. When it arrived it had no battery in the compartment. No where in the blurb was it mentioned that the battery was not supplied. The battery was a non standard item costing more than the zapper. Item arrived at 10am this morning and by 11am it was at a Hermes pickup point on its way back to Amazon returns depot. I was amazed that when I hit the return item button there was no questions just an instant email with a QR code to take to the local returns agent.Hold the QR code under their scanner and it prints off a label. You then stick on label and just put parcel on the huge pile of returns from over the weekend. No need to even seal the parcel. They must get millions of returns every year. As far as I can tell all returns are palletted and sold on auction sites and never get back to Amazon.

              regards

I would say you have a good case if not "as described" good idea to save the photos if still available and a screen shot of the advert then open a case with eBay complaints asking for a refund — or I think you can just ask to return the item for a refund ? look at eBay help.

If it's the one I think it is on eBay, there is a contact us button at the bottom of the advert page.
The address on the ad is actually the Ltd Co.'s registered address, and the phone number looks like it's elsewhere, but no-one van be sure of that these days with number portability and auto call forwarding etc.

The company seems to exist off eBay, and may be worth contacting them via their web page.

It depends on whether you want to keep the item, return it, or get a partial refund, since it's not as described.
I'd suggest though that all contact is made via ebay's messaging system, as then it's logged that you have asked the company to correct their error formally. before invoking eBay's "not as described" process, which is likely to find in your favour.

Depending on how long you're prepared to wait, there's always this one at a similar price.

Before the local auction house turned to on-line only I would go + look at these returns which usually occupied their own sale – many of the faults were easily rectified and often in my opinion were the careless handling of the original buyer – I wouldn’t however bid on anything sight unseen as all too often a key part was missing or damage deliberately hidden.

Always annoying when these things happen Frank – but if you can work out what size of thread your transfer gauge/extension pin uses, then a new extension shouldn't be hard to make – assuming that the rest of the gauge itself is OK of course (otherwise just return it).

Sometimes, if you can find a simple/quick way to fix a problem yourself, then it's probably easier to just do so and put it down to exerience. I don't use mine that often but it can be useful to have one sometimes. It's one of those 'nice but not absolutely essential' things.

                        Regards,

                        IanT
